Class of '65

The following was taken from the 1965 Squaw Butte Saga ...

The time is 1961; the place is Parkview Junior High School. More than 200 fun-loving freshmen come into focus on the camera of life as they begin their freshman year. The camera records this as a memorable event, for this is the first time in Emmett's history that a freshman class has ever attended a junior high. This picture is completed with the election of Alan Benson as president, Larry Rose as vice-president, and Terry Howell as secretary-treasurer. Mr. Duane Barrett and Mr. Jim Levers are selected as class advisers.

It is now 1962, and the camera shifts to the hallowed halls of Emmett High School, recording the invasion of EHS by the new sophomore class. To frame this already impressive picture, Jim Ross is chosen as president, John Peterson as vice-president, Patty Barnard as secretary-treasurer, and Dale Sanders and Sharon Colburn as class representatives. The selection of Mrs. Genevieve Clark and Mr. Tony Villanueva as class advisors adds the finishing touch. As the year progresses, the many fund-raising events and adventures of this ambitious class are recorded on life's film. To highlight the picture, the EHS football team wins the SRV championship, and the basketball team not only wins the SRV championship, but also goes on to the State Basketball Tournament, winning the consolation trophy.

Time passes quickly, and it is now the year of 1963. Coming into view on life's great camera is this year's junior class. A very favorable picture is formed with the election of John Peterson as president, Dan Lawson as vice-president, Patty Barnard as secretary-treasurer, and Karalee Benge and Robert Fry as class representatives. To highlight the scene, Mr. Frank Costa and Mr. Tony Villanueva are selected as class advisers. This year the camera is kept very busy recording the many activities sponsored by the active junior class. "The Life of the Party", the junior class play, is a smashing hit and worthyof an Oscar. Next, the Junior-Senior Prom comes into focus. Under the direction of co-chairmen Bill Broich and Shirley Humphries, the theme "Three Coins in a Fountain" is effectively carried out, and the dance is considered a grand finale for a wonderful year.

The year 1964 now comes into view. Focused upon life's screen is the senior class of 1965. The picture becomes more clearly defined with the election of Bob Fry as president, Boyd Jensen as vice-president, Karalee Benge as secretary-treasurer, and Margaret Carroll and Rodger Sutton as class representatives. To complete the scene Mr. Gil Koga and Mr. Ray Mullins are chosen as class advisers. The year 1964 travels by quickly, and soon it is 1965. The stage is now set for the year's greatest production: GRADUATION. All too soon, another act of that great play called LIFE comes to an end, but the memory of it will live forever in the hearts of all the actors.
