Class of '78

The following was taken from the 1978 Squaw Butte Saga ...

“Here we come!” was the feeling we had as we entered the halls of E.H.S. for the first time as freshmen. We fit right in, and soon proved that even as freshmen we had class. Our officers were Doneta Carroll, president; Mike Spicer, vice-president; Charlene Rohrbacher, secretary; and Mary Lou McDougal, treasurer. Mrs. Black and Mr. Knox were our advisors. Our class, due to the lack of money in our treasury, was unable to enter a float in the homecoming parade but we made up for this by winning the SPIRIT STICK for the year.

Our Sophomore year officers were James Carroll, president; Korth Elliott, vice-president; Debbie Rudd, secretary-treasurer; and Diana Beckman and Ken Gull, representatives. We entered our first float ever in the Homecoming Parade and won first place honors for it!

Our Junior year came amidst the excitement of the traditional prom, given to the seniors every year by the juniors. Our class officers were Korth Elliot, president; Charlene Rohrbacher, vice-president; Mary Lou McDougal treasurer; Kristi Butler, secretary; and Mike Spicer, sergeant at arms. Charlene Rohrbacher and Jean Gratton were Prom Co-Chairmen. We entered our float with the theme “Our Spirit is Sky High” in the Homecoming Parade and won again first place honors. In the “Almost Anything Goes” contest with the junior and senior girls, we won a decisive victory over the very surprised seniors. Finally the big day was here! The Prom was held on May 7th at the Rodeway Inn in Boise. The theme was “Stairway to Heaven”, and on the whole, the dance was a great success.

AT LAST! This was the comment heard most often as we came back to finish our last year as members of Emmett High School. The halls were full of domineering seniors. Class officers were Mike Spicer, president; Ken Gull, vice-president; Charlene Rohrbacher, secretary; Kristi Butler, treasurer; Jim Terry, sergeant at arms, and Connie Holmes, social chairman. Our advisors were Tom Carlsen and Wanda Black, both of whom we would like to thank very much for all their time and devotion. “Huskies Are Victory Bound” was the theme for our Homecoming float, and it took third place honors. The senior girls tied with the junior girls, 6-6, in the Powderpuff Football game. There are no words to describe how close our class has become over the last four years. Through laughter, tears, victory or defeat we have stood together and each and every one of us hold very special feelings for our classmates.

As we leave the halls of E.H.S. forever as students, we feel that we have left a sense of pride that no other class before us has done. Nobody will forget us! We are . . . “Great in 78!” Second to none!
